Young National Chef of the Year finalist- Tom Reeves
Tom has always enjoyed eating food and going out for meals. However, it was watching cookery programmes on TV that also got him interested in cooking and led him to becoming a chef. He started work when he was 14 at his local golf club and then completed his BTEC at Middlesbrough College. Following that he completed a work-based apprenticeship at Wynyard Hall and Peace and Loaf before moving to L’Enclume over three years ago.
Simon Rogan is a big inspiration to Tom and his drive to constantly do better is inspiring. The seasons and local produce also inspire Tom’s creative side. He wanted to be part of The Young National Chef of the Year so he could challenge himself and learn new skills.
For Tom, winning the final would be a great achievement and it’s something he has been focused on for a few years. To achieve that goal would be amazing. As soon as Tom knew he was in the final he called his family but there was no time for celebrations as he was at work on the day.
The three words Tom used to describe his style of cooking are precise, methodical and seasonal.
