Meet the National Chef of the Year semi-finalists: Adam Thomason
Adam Thomason has already made a huge impression on the judges having been the runner-up in the National Chef of the Year competition for the last two years. But this year Adam is hoping to be back in the final and go one better. Before then, Adam will be cooking in Heat 2 of NCOTY in London. How is he feeling about being part of the UK’s most prestigious culinary competition this year?
Tell us how you first heard about the competition and what attracted you to enter?
I first heard about the competition when I was in college and have fancied the challenge ever since.
Where were you when you first discovered you had made it into the National Chef of the Year semi-finals?
I was de-boning 50 duck on the sauce section, desperately trying to get set for a busy dinner service.
How did you celebrate your achievement?
I am not celebrating as the aim is to keep my head down and practice to make sure I do myself proud.
How are you preparing for the next stage of the competition?
I am doing practice run throughs with Mateusz Hnatowski, who will be my commis chef on the day!
Who has been your biggest inspiration in your career so far?
How will you feel if your name is called out as a finalist?
Very proud. It’s a mega competition just to be part of.

After spending three years in Copenhagen, my food takes on fun touches of Scandinavian cooking techniques.
